Scheduled Maintenance: May 13th Migration Update

StaffConnect
May 7, 2024

Dear Valued Customers,

I’m Jason Kwong, CTO at StaffConnect. 8 months ago, I released a notice detailing a catastrophic outage because of an aging and deprecating IT infrastructure.

I am pleased to announce that the ongoing infrastructure upgrades will be concluding following a migration to our new service providers, which is set to begin on May 13th at 12:00pm UTC. This will last for 24 hours. During this time StaffConnect will be placed in a read-only mode, so data will still be accessible to view, however edits and additions will not be saved. It should be noted that no emails or reminders will be delivered during the maintenance period.

The successful migration marks the transition of StaffConnect from its decade-old servers which have stood the test of time. However, unfortunately these servers could not keep up with the growth and demand for StaffConnect’s services witnessed over the last year. To provide context, an increase in monthly email sends rose from 18,000 to 450,000. Concurrent traffic to StaffConnect grew 40%, increasing the toll on each server to handle the peak periods. Database sizes swelled with some customers having volume sizes 200% over the median. Ultimately, it was time to find a service that enabled StaffConnect to grow and meet the demands our customers expected.

With the introduction of our new service provider came the opportunity to overhaul deprecating architecture that resulted in hindered operational processes, particularly around monitoring. As a result, we will now have a team of engineers monitoring StaffConnect’s uptime 24/7. We have refined our process around data replication, introducing several new servers for better availability, speed, performance, and stability. StaffConnect will be primed for scale, never having to be concerned with matching the speed of your business’ growth.

We’ve introduced dedicated servers as an option for our Unlimited and Enterprise customers, which provides business owners with more control over their StaffConnect system. I’ve just released a notice regarding dedicated servers which can be read here.

If you have any questions or concerns surrounding the migration and the maintenance period, please do not hesitate to contact our support team at support@staffconnect.app.

Thank you for continually choosing StaffConnect, I look forward to this next exciting chapter in StaffConnect’s journey.

Best Regards,

Jason Kwong
